Anger

The first emotion of the first man born on earth was anger. Cain, out of a fit of jealous rage, killed his brother. Anger was not just a problem for the first mortal man born on earth but for every man. It expresses itself in countless ways: road rage, spousal abuse, security guards, having to have metal detectors at schools, airports, and athletic events, and scores of other ways.

It’s not surprising, then, that the Bible often warns us against anger. One warning says, “He that has no rule over his spirit is like a city with its walls broken down” (Proverbs 25:29). The walls of a city were its chief means of defense. With the walls broken down, the city was left defenseless and vulnerable to all kinds of attacks.

An uncontrolled temper is a sign of weakness rather than strength. It renders the person vulnerable to all kinds of other evils. It was part of the mission and message of Jesus to give us victory over anger. Ask him and he’ll help you.
