We are feeling a crisis in belief in America.
We have rejected God and the Bible and become so open-minded that our brains have fallen out. In the name of tolerance and intellectual sophistication, we have become mushy-headed.
Our godless, materialistic society has created a spiritual vacuum, leaving many lives void of meaning, hope, and stability. Many people are so jaded that they uncritically accept any idea that comes down the pike. Our generation has produced more new religious cults than any generation in the total history of the human race.
How can we explain all this? I like what Dr. Clay Heard had to say about the Jonestown tragedy where a cult leader was responsible for the senseless deaths of so many. He wrote, “It’s an old, old story really. False prophets are not new and neither is the gullibility of man. People are desperate for something to believe in and belong to. Unless they come to know Christ and true Christian fellowship they will fill the emptiness of their lives with a god and a cult of their own making. The end result is always the same—disillusionment and death. The tragedy in Guyana is a case in point. Jim Jones promised his followers life, then led them to their deaths. It had to end that way, for manmade religions are all demonic at heart and essentially self-destructive.”
What is the answer to all this? Those of us who know that Jesus is “the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6) have a responsibility to share that good news with all who will listen so that their lives too will not end in tragedy.
I think it is high time we get back to the Bible and the true faith, and it needs to begin with you.
