Grandfather’s Faith

The Christian faith is given to us in the Bible full and final, complete and unchanging. Nothing to be added to it or subtracted from it. You may ask, “Am I to believe the same thing my grandfather believed?” Oh yes! Your grandfather may not have known a computer chip from a potato chip, but if he understood the Bible correctly you can believe the same thing he believed.

Just because a thing is old doesn’t mean it is no longer true or relevant. The sun is old but it still warms the earth. Water is old but it still quenches the thirst. Air is old but it still sustains life. The math tables are old but they’re still the basis for commerce. And our faith is old but it is still valid and worth believing.

One of the great ways to begin the New Year is to make a new commitment to the old-time religion. Like the sun, Jesus will still warm your hearts. Like water, he will still satisfy your spiritual thirst. Like the air, he will still sustain you in life and in death.
