W.T. Waggoner, a Texas rancher and Deputy Secretary of Defense under President Dwight D. Eisenhower, was one of the richest men in America. Among his assets was the largest fenced ranch in America, covering 535,000 acres of land. He is said to have once took a businessman on a tour of his ranch. He pointed north and said, “You can ride 50 miles in that direction and you will still be on my land.” Then he pointed to the west and said, “You can ride 25 miles in that direction and still be on my land.”
At the death of Mr. Waggoner, someone asked his business manager, “I wonder how much W.T. left?” The wise manager solemnly replied, “Why, he left it all.”
When we die, you and I will leave the same amount as Warren Buffet or Bill Gates. We will leave it all. We enter and exit this life possessing the same thing – nothing. Since things are for time alone and not for eternity, they ought never be of primary value in our lives. Give your life to what lasts: Christ and eternal values.
