Poor Communication

The last battle of the Civil War was fought March 12-13, 1865 near Brownsville in Cameron County, Texas. Ironically it was fought more than a month after the South had surrendered and the war was over.

The Texans won the battle, but 118 men lost their lives. The men invested all they had – their courage, their skill, their blood, and their futures – all for nothing.

The reason? Poor communication. They did not know that we had already surrendered at Appomattox. A lot of hurts and conflicts in life can be traced to poor communication. In a day of cell phones, emails, and television news we still need to learn how to communicate across the kitchen table as well as the conference table. We need it in our homes, offices, school, and nation.

Most of all, we need to communicate with God. Have you spoken to him lately? Have you listened?
