At the close of his early Los Angeles crusade a fellow minister said of Billy Graham, “I believe he has set the church back 50 years.” Graham who never answered his critics replied in jest, “I supposed I have failed. I intended to set the church back 2,000 years.”
Believing the simple Christian faith is an offense to some. They say, “To hold on to the old-time religion in our modern world is like driving a horse and buggy down Interstate 20.” I believe however, the greatest need of America and our world is to return to the faith of our fathers.
What is the old-time religion? It’s the belief that salvation is free; the Bible is true; sin is deadly; heaven is real and judgment is sure, forgiveness is available and Jesus saves.
There is no better way to begin the new year than to make a new commitment to the old-time religion. It was good for our fathers and it’s good enough for me. . . and I hope you.
