The Satisfied Life

There are millions who are wondering if there is not more to life than they have found. They are convinced that if there is not more, life is one great disappointment. In their search for satisfaction, millions are turning to narcotics, alcohol, pleasure, and sex. But the material things of this world do not satisfy. They are like drinking salt water. They cannot quench our thirst.

There is in the human heart a thirst for something that only Jesus Christ can satisfy.

First, Jesus satisfies our thirst for God. There is a well-worn saying to the effect that people are hungry for God hut do not know it. It is more like a spiritual vitamin deficiency. They know that something is wrong. They crave something but do not know what it is. Instead of going to a reputable physician for a prescription, they attempt to satisfy the craving by stuffing themselves with chocolate-covered cherries. Many popular sermons, especially of the self-help type, are gobbled up avidly and the multitude clamor for more. Only Christ can bring us to God and thus supply this basic need.

Second, Jesus satisfies our thirst for forgiveness. Sin is our major problem. A person is a sinner whether he’s a member of Phi Beta Kappa or a CEO. He is a sinner whether he wears a tux or overalls. He’s a sinner whether he’s a Ph.D. or a high school dropout. Only Christ offers and can provide true forgiveness of sin.

Finally, Jesus satisfies our thirst for faith. We all need a faith to live by—something certain we can live by. What can a man believe today? He can believe in Jesus Christ—all he is and all he has said. Jesus Christ is trustworthy.
