Where the Money Is

Willy Sutton was a noted bank robber and escape artist. He was a tough Irish kid born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1902. He began his life of crime pilfering small things and then moved to breaking and entering and eventually to robbing banks. In his lifetime he robbed more than 100 banks and served several prison sentences, including a stint in Sing-Sing. He also managed to escape from three of those jails!

He always carried a pistol or a machine gun in his crimes but prided himself on the fact that he was such a professional that he never had to use them. When asked why he carried a gun that he never used, he said, “You can’t rob a bank on charm and personality alone.” When someone asked him, “Willy, why do you rob banks?” he supposedly answered, “Because that’s where the money is.”

To be successful in life we need to know where to find life. Jesus asks, “What does a man profit if he gains the whole world and loses his life?” The answer is “nothing.” The abundant life is found in Christ and Christ alone. Look to him. That’s where you’ll find what you’re looking for. And you’ll need grace, not a gun, to get it.
