Death

Literary genius George Bernard Shaw stated that life’s ultimate statistic is the same for all people: one out of one dies. Death is no respecter of persons. Sooner or later death will blow its chilly breath into the face of every one of us.

The Bible warns us that “It is appointed unto men once to die, after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27). You may prolong life and delay death, but you cannot escape it.

Once a servant walked the streets of Baghdad and chanced to meet Death face to face. Taken by surprise, the servant rushed home to his master and requested the use of his fastest horse so that he might flee and thus escape Death. The master granted the request and off the servant raced to the city of Samara. Later that day the master was walking the streets of Baghdad when he too chanced to meet Death. He asked Death, “Why did you surprise my servant today and frighten him so?” Death answered, “It was not I who surprised your servant. It was he who surprised me. I never expected to see your servant in Baghdad today for I had made a date for him tonight in Samara.”

We cannot escape death. We must simply be prepared for it when it comes. Have you made preparation? The only real way to prepare to meet God is to live and walk with him today so that meeting him will be nothing strange.
